





ANNUAL TECHNICAL MEETING
2011 OAS Annual Technical Meeting
Southeastern Oklahoma State University – Durant, OK
Friday, 11 November 2011
It is not too early to begin thinking about the paper or poster that you can present at the Academy’s Annual Technical Meeting scheduled for Friday November 11 at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. You may register for this meeting and submit titles of presentations on-line through the Academy’s web site (oas.uco.edu). YOU STILL MUST MAIL YOUR REGISTRATION PAYMENT TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OR PAY VIA PAYPAL, AS INDICATED ON THE REGISTRATION FORM BEFORE FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4. It is anticipated registration on the web site will be running by early September. All presenters must register for the meeting before submitting a title. The deadline for submission of titles is Wednesday October 26. If you desire to write and publish an abstract of your presentation in POAS, see the announcement below (Publication of Abstracts in POAS). Also, undergraduate students are invited to compete for the Collegiate Academy Awards and graduate students are encouraged to compete for the Graduate Student Award. See the information described for each award.
Meals and seating at the noon luncheon and plenary presentation is limited. Our speaker, Duane Smith, recently retired from the position of Director of the Oklahoma Water Resources Board and is well known for his work with water as a resource. His presentation will be of interest to all Academy members and guests. Faculty are encouraged to invite students to attend this event. You should make you ticket purchase in advance (with your early registration) to save money and guarantee a seat.
The OAS Executive Council will meet Thursday evening November 10. It is important that all section chairs and vice-chairs plan to attend and represent their section at this dinner meeting.

Collegiate Academy (Undergraduate) Award
Please remember that the OCAS paper/poster competition also is conducted at the OAS Technical Meeting held Friday, November 11 at Southeastern Oklahoma State University – Durant, OK. Please be sure to follow the on-line registration instructions, as only those who register on-line will be eligible for awards. In addition, the student must be an Academy member to receive a monetary award. The deadline for title submission is Friday, October 26. Although oral presentations are preferred, poster presentations will be accepted. If you are planning on presenting a poster, follow those prescribed for Oklahoma Research Day so students participating in both events may use the same poster. Graduate Student Presentation Award
Information regarding the Graduate Student Award may be found below. President-Elect Dr. Craig Clifford (clifford@nsuok.edu) is coordinating the Graduate Student Award, so any questions pertaining to this competition should be directed to him.
Nature of Award
The award will be made at the Annual Technical Meeting and will consist of:
1. An appropriate certificate;
2. A monetary award;
3. Publication of the abstract of student’s talk in POAS, marked as the outstanding student presentation for the year;
4. One year’s membership in the Academy.
Eligibility for the Award
1. Student must be a member of OAS.
2. Student must have completed a bachelor’s degree and, at the time of the presentation, must not have completed the requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree.
3. Student must submit a title and abstract to an appropriate section chair and the Award Committee by the deadline date set by the Academy for submission of titles (October 26
). The submission must identify the speaker as a candidate for graduate student award competition. The abstract must be approved by the student’s major advisor.
4. Student must register for and attend the meeting and present the work.
